COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 5,745 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,401,866.

This is the second day in a row where cases have been below the 6,000 mark.

The fresh infections today comprised 5,443 Malaysians (94.7 percent) and 302 non-citizens (5.3 percent).

They were surpassed by a total of 8,933 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

• Patients in ICU: 682
• Intubated: 331

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 7.6 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 14.2 percent from a week ago.

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish the daily breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

The breakdown by states for yesterday (Oct 18), where 5,434 new cases were reported, is as follows:

To date, 634 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including eight new clusters reported today.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 19.0 percent from the 783 active clusters a week ago.

The eight new clusters today comprised seven workplace clusters (87.5 percent) and one education institution cluster (12.5 percent).
