Covid-19 (Sept 23): 13,754 new cases, Perlis hits new record

Categories:

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 13,754 new cases of Covid-19 today.

Perlis (113), which has the highest Covid-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) bed usage in the country, hit a new record.

It is the third time cases in Malaysia’s smallest state has hit triple digits.

Nationally, the R-naught for Covid-19 as of yesterday is 0.92. This is the 22nd consecutive day the figure has remained below 1.00.

Any number higher than 1.00 suggests a growing outbreak that is accelerating in pace. Conversely, a figure below 1.00 suggests the outbreak is in decline.

Nevertheless, there are still six states where the R-naught is at or above 1.00, namely – Pahang (1.03), Perak (1.02), Terengganu (1.01), Perlis (1.01), Sarawak (1.00), and Kelantan (1.00).

Active cases and deaths will only be reported after midnight. For yesterday’s figures, click here.

Covid-19 (Sept 22): 14,990 new cases, record in Kelantan

Categories:

The Health Ministry today reported 14,990 new Covid-19 cases, with Kelantan reporting record numbers.

Kelantan (1,573) has the second lowest vaccination rate in the country and the number of hospital beds being used by Covid-19 patients is steadily rising.

As of Sept 17, Kelantan, notably, has a very high “positivity” rate of 28.9 percent based on a seven-day average.

Sarawak still has the highest “incident rate” (cases per 100,000 people over the past week) and hospitalisation is on the uptrend.

However, data on the CovidNow website suggests that deaths attributed to Covid-19 with population taken into account is relatively low, possibly due to a high vaccination rate.

The second highest incident rate is noted in Penang followed by Perak. Hospitalisation of Covid-19 patients in these two states are trending lower slightly.

As of last night, the R-naught for Kelantan was 0.99. Only four states have a R-naught of more than 1.00 – Pahang, Sarawak, Terengganu and Perak.

At the national level, the R-naught has reached 0.95. The figure has been below 1.00 since Sept 1.

Active cases and deaths will only be reported after midnight. For yesterday’s figures, click here.

Covid-19 (Sept 20): 14,345 new cases, 1,683 in the Klang Valley

Categories:

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 14,345 new Covid-19 cases.

The new case count for Klang Valley (1,683) and neighbouring Negeri Sembilan (125) has now slipped to levels not seen since early May.

The Klang Valley’s share of new cases is only 11.73 percent of the national total  – down from an average share of 48 percent – as the epicentre for Covid-19 shifts away from the capital.

The Covid-19 is still widespread in the states of Sarawak, Johor, Sabah, Penang, Perak and Kelantan – all in four figures.

The R-naught for the country is 0.92. It has been below 1.00 since Sept 1. An R-naught of less than 1.00 suggests that the spread of Covid-19 is decelerating.

Only six regions have an R-naught of more than 1.00 – Pahang, Sarawak, Perak and Terengganu.

The Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan have the lowest R-naught in the country while it is 0.00 for Labuan.

Covid-19 deaths and active cases are no longer included in the Health Ministry’s daily evening statements. For yesterday’s death and active cases figure, please click here.
