Covid-19 (Aug 23): 17,672 new cases, Klang Valley case count easing down
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 17,672 new Covid-19 cases.
Selangor (4,316) reported new cases below the 5,000 mark for the first time in 35 days.
The number of people in quarantine centres in Selangor has also steadily dropping over the past week as was the number of people hospitalised for Covid-19. Selangor’s ICU bed use, however, is holding steady over the past week.
Overall, new case numbers in the Klang Valley – where 66.7 percent of the adult population (2010 census numbers) have been fully vaccinated – has been steadily dropping since Aug 6.
While this augurs well for the most populated part of the country, other regions where the vaccination rate is not as high are seeing an uptrend in case counts and hospitalisations.
