Covid-19 (June 1): 7,105 new cases, S’gor above 2k for 10th consecutive day
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 7,105 new Covid-19 cases, amidst a record number of active infections which has breached the 80,000 mark.
A record number of patients needing intensive care was reported as well, along with active clusters.

Selangor recorded 2,068 new infections today, making it the 10th consecutive day where fresh cases were above 2,000.
Approximately one in 12 new cases in the state were detected among those reporting symptoms. This was a welcome sign because it is considerably better than one in seven observed on May 27.
Kuala Lumpur saw a significant surge of 817 cases, near the record high of 830 set on May 28.
As of yesterday, the R-naught for the country was 1.09, down from a year-to-date high of 1.21 observed on May 23. As long as the R-naught stays higher than 1.00, it suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was accelerating.
Every state or territory in the country has a R-naught of more than 1.00.
Deaths
Another 71 deaths related to Covid-19 were reported today, bringing the national death toll to 2,867.
The deaths were reported in Selangor (28), Johor (8), Sarawak (7), Kuala Lumpur (6), Kelantan (5), Malacca (4), Kedah (3), Negeri Sembilan (2), Terengganu (2), Perak (2), Sabah (1), Pahang (1), Labuan (1) and Penang (1).
The youngest victim was a 27-year-old woman in Sarawak. Five victims were prounounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Clusters
The Health Ministry is monitoring 668 active Covid-19 clusters. For comparison, there were only 395 on May 1.
There were 27 new clusters classified today. The bulk of clusters were workplace ones followed by eight community clusters.

Covid-19 (May 31): 6,824 new cases, nearly 80,000 active cases being handled
COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 6,824 new Covid-19 cases, where the Klang Valley reported the lowest number of new cases in eight days.
Active cases are at a record high today, as was the number of patients needing intensive care.
The number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care had risen approximately 160 percent in just a month.

This does not necessarily indicate that the spread of Covid-19 was decreasing in absolute terms, but instead indicate that just the rate of increase is slowing.
Apart from Perlis, every state or territory in Malaysia has a R-naught of more than 1.00.
Deaths
Another 67 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported today, bringing the cumulative casualty count to 2,796.
These deaths occured in Selangor (15), Johor (12), Sarawak (8), Kedah (6), Negeri Sembilan (5), Kelantan (5), Pahang (4), Penang (3), Labuan (3), Malacca (3), Sabah (2) and Kuala Lumpur (1).
The youngest victim was a 15-year-old boy with leukemia. There were eight victims who were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

There are 655 active clusters being monitored by the Health Ministry, up 68 percent when compared to April 30.
There were 25 new clusters that were classified today, of which 14 were clusters related to workplaces and nine related to community spread.
