Covid-19 (Oct 13): 7,950 new cases

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 7,950 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,361,529.
They were surpassed by a total of 10,832 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 14.0 percent lower compared to a week ago.
Those who require intubation have also declined by 14.0 percent from a week ago.
Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today’s breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

As of yesterday, the R-naught for the country is 0.88. A R-naught of less than 1.00 is good because it suggests that the spread of Covid-19 was decelerating.
The only regions where the R-naught was above 1.00 are Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Perlis.
However, hospital bed use by Covid-19 patients is generally trending down over the past months, except in Sarawak. [See chart below]
Clusters
To date, 762 Covid-19 clusters are still active, including 13 new clusters reported today.
The ongoing clusters have fallen by 18.2 percent from the 932 active clusters a week ago.
The 13 new clusters today comprised six workplace clusters (46.2 percent), three community clusters (23.1 percent), one private educational institution (7.7 percent), one non-education ministry institution (7.7 percent), one high-risk group cluster (7.7 percent) and one detention centre cluster (7.7 percent).

Covid-19 deaths (Oct 13): 103 new deaths, toll at 27,525

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported another 103 new Covid-19 deaths yesterday (Oct 12), bringing the cumulative death toll to 27,525.
Malaysia is the worst-performing country in Asia in the number of Covid-19 deaths per capita.
From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 25.2 percent or 26 died before they received treatment at a hospital.
Sarawak recorded the highest number of new deaths at 26, making up 25.2 percent of the newly reported fatalities.
The remaining deaths were in Johor (15), Sabah (13), Selangor (13), Kelantan (11), Perak (9), Penang (7), Kedah (6), Negeri Sembilan (1), Perlis (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1).
No new deaths were reported in Malacca, Pahang, Terengganu, Labuan and Putrajaya.
Ninety out of the 103 reported deaths, or 87.4 percent, happened in the last seven days.
The remaining deaths happened more than a week ago but were only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.
An average of 227 Covid-19 deaths were reported daily in the last 30 days compared to an average of 93 over the past seven days, indicating a downward trend.
To date, 1,317 Covid-19 deaths have been reported this month.
As of yesterday, there were 108,997 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 19.8 percent from the 135,946 active infections a week ago.
Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 54.1 percent from 237,278.
The Health Ministry’s post-midnight update also provided further insights into the new Covid-19 infections yesterday.
From the 7,276 new cases yesterday, there were 379 cases traced to active Covid-19 clusters.
Previously, the Health Ministry released deaths statistics together with the number of new Covid-19 cases in the evening. This has changed since early-September.

The fresh cases today comprised 6,871 Malaysians (94.4 percent) and 405 non-citizens (5.6 percent). They were surpassed by a total of 10,555 Covid-19 patients who recovered today, pushing down the number of active cases.

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 13.9 percent lower compared to a week ago.
Those who require intubation have also declined by 9.1 percent from a week ago.

The Health Ministry has reported 6,709 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the total case count in the country to 2,346,303.
The distribution of new cases according to states will be reported on the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website after midnight.
The fresh infections today comprised 6,459 Malaysians (96.3 percent) and 250 non-citizens (3.7 percent).
They were surpassed by a total of 10,833 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

Covid-19 (Oct 10): 7,373 cases – lowest since July 7

COVID-19 | The number of new Covid-19 cases reported by the Health Ministry is 7,373 today, the lowest tally since the first week of July.
On July 7, the tally of new cases was 7,097 infections.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah posted the tally on his Facebook page, adding that the cumulative total was now 2,339,594 cases.
A state by state breakdown was not given.
The fresh infections today comprised 6,992 Malaysians (94.8 percent) and 381 non-citizens (5.2 percent).
They were surpassed by a total of 10,959 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 11.4 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Noor Hisham also told Malaysians not to let their guard down as the number of cases and deaths fell, and the percentage of those fully vaccinated rose.
“Please don’t let your guard down.
“Although our adult vaccination rate is almost 90 percent this is not an excuse for us to take Covid-19 standard operating procedure for granted.
“We must continue to comply with all precautionary measures including self-testing. Please stay vigilant at all times,” he said.

Covid-19 deaths (Oct 10): 74 reported fatalities, lowest since July 2

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry’s Github data repository reported a total of 74 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Oct 9), bringing the cumulative death toll to 27,265.
This is the lowest number of reported deaths in 97 days. On July 2, a total of 73 deaths were recorded.
From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 36.5 percent or 27 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.
Selangor recorded the highest number of new deaths at 22, making up 29.7 percent of the newly reported fatalities.
The remaining deaths were in Sarawak (14), Sabah (11), Johor (10), Kelantan (5), Perak (4), Malacca (2), Kuala Lumpur (2), Kedah (1), Negeri Sembilan (1), Perlis (1) and Terengganu (1).
No new deaths were reported in Pahang, Penang, Labuan and Putrajaya.
A total of 59 out of the 74 deaths or 79.7 percent happened in the last seven days.
The remaining ones happened more than a week ago but were only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.
An average of 259 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 100, indicating a downtrend.
As of yesterday, there were 120,246 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 22.8 percent from the 155,824 active infections a week ago.
Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 50.5 percent from 242,806.

Covid-19 (Oct 9): 8,743 new cases, breakdown by states data delayed

The breakdown was not included in the Noor Hisham’s daily statement either.
In his statement, Noor Hisham said that as the country move’s to the endemic phase of living with Covid-19, the method of reporting and breakdown of data will focus more on key and important indicators.
On the nationwide front, the number of new Covid-19 cases today was outpaced by recoveries (14,422).

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry’s Github data repository reported a total of 78 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Oct 8), bringing the cumulative death toll to 27,191.
From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 29.5 percent or 23 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.
Malaysia is the worst-performing country in Asia in the number of Covid-19 deaths per capita.
Johor recorded the highest number of new deaths at 13, making up 16.7 percent of the latest reported fatalities.
The remaining deaths were in Sabah (12), Selangor (12), Penang (10), Kelantan (8), Sarawak (8), Kedah (4), Perak (4), Perlis (2), Kuala Lumpur (2), Malacca (1), Negeri Sembilan (1) and Pahang (1).
No new deaths were reported in Terengganu, Labuan and Putrajaya.
A total of 65 out of the 78 reported deaths, or 83.3 percent, happened in the last seven days.
The remaining deaths happened more than a week ago but were only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.
An average of 268 Covid-19 deaths was reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 105, indicating a downward trend.
As of yesterday, there were 125,998 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 21.5 percent from the 160,413 active infections a week ago.
Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases fell by almost 50 percent from 248,675.

The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to education institutions (16 or 4.2 percent) and detention centres (8 or 2.1 percent).

Covid-19 (Oct 8): 9,751 cases, slight uptick in Klang Valley

The Health Ministry today reported 9,751 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,323,478.
Selangor topped the chart with 1,796 fresh infections, the highest in eight days.
This is the first time in 16 days that fresh infections in Selangor had overtaken Sarawak, which is a new epicentre of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hospitalisation of Covid-19 patients in Sarawak has been relatively unchanged for the past week after trending up for two months straight.
Kuala Lumpur is also seeing a slight increase in fresh infections – the highest in 15 days – although it has made much progress from the record high of 2,880 on July 28.

In Peninsular Malaysia, the Klang Valley was responsible for 2,154 or 28.0 percent of the new infections while the remaining 5,551 cases or 72.0 percent came from outside of the Klang Valley.

Covid-19 (Oct 7): 9,890 new cases, record high in Perlis

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 9,890 new Covid-19 cases.
Perlis reported a record number with 200 infections. The state has been relatively unaffected by Covid-19 until August when new daily cases were being reported in the double digits.
Elsewhere, new cases and hospitalisation of Covid-19 patients are generally trending down, except in Sarawak where Covid-19 bed use is trending up.
As of the latest available data yesterday, all states had reported an Rt of less than 1.00, which indicated that the outbreak was shrinking all across Malaysia.
Negeri Sembilan had the highest Rt of 0.99, followed by Malacca (0.97) and Perlis (0.96). The national average was 0.86.

- Intubated: 445 (336 confirmed; 109 probable)
For today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 10.5 percent lower compared to a week ago.
Those who require intubation have also declined by 12.7 percent from a week ago.

The ongoing clusters have fallen by 16.3 percent from the 1,088 active clusters a week ago.
The 13 new clusters today comprised eight workplace clusters (61.5 percent), three community clusters (23.1 percent) and two non-education ministry institution clusters (15.4 percent).
