Covid-19 deaths (Nov 3): 70 reported fatalities, total toll breaches 29,000

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry’s Github data repository reported a total of 70 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday, bringing the cumulative death toll to 29,045.

 

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 876 deaths per 1 million population.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 15 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of new deaths at 18.

The remaining deaths were in Kelantan (11), Selangor (11), Penang (8), Kedah (6), Perak (5), Johor (4), Sabah (4), Pahang (1), Terengganu (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1).

No new deaths were reported in Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, Labuan and Putrajaya.

A total of 69 out of the 70 reported deaths happened in the last seven days.

 

The remaining death happened more than a week ago but was only recorded yesterday due to delays in data reporting.

An average of 79 Covid-19 deaths were reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 67, indicating a downtrend.

As of yesterday, there were 66,862 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 8.7 percent from the 73,258 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 55.5 percent from 150,318.

Cluster-linked infections

The Health Ministry’s post-midnight update also provided further insights into the new Covid-19 infections yesterday.

 

From the 5,071 new cases yesterday, a total of 146 of them could be traced to ongoing Covid-19 clusters.

From the cluster-linked cases, 121 (82.9 percent) were from workplaces while 15 (10.3 percent) were from community transmissions.

Another 7 (4.8 percent) were from clusters linked to education institutions.

The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to and high-risk groups such as old folks homes (3 – 2.1 percent).

Previously, the Health Ministry released deaths statistics together with the number of new Covid-19 cases in the evening. This had since changed.

Deaths statistics are now released after midnight along with other more detailed data. Malaysiakini reports them in the morning.

EMCO in Kg Orang Asli Satak, Raub from tomorrow

An Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be enforced in Kampung Orang Asli Satak, in Raub, Pahang starting tomorrow (Nov 2) till Nov 16.

National Security Council director-general Rodzi Md Saad said the decision was made after evaluating the Health Ministry’s risk assessment and the Covid-19 infection trend in the locality.

“The standard operating procedure (SOP) for all EMCOs are the same as previously announced,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Rodzi added that no EMCOs in the country were extended or ended today.

Covid-19 (Nov 2): 5,071 new cases

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 5,071 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,481,339.

They were surpassed by a total of 5,372 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

 

  • Patients in ICU: 557
  • Intubated: 300

 

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 4.6 percent lower compared to a week ago.

Those who require intubation have also declined by 1.6 percent from a week ago.

Nationally, the number of hospital admissions in the last seven days have declined by 4.4 percent compared to the preceding week.

 

However, hospital admissions in some states are on the rise, particularly in Terengganu (+34.2 percent), Kedah (+18.8 percent) and Sabah (+13.1 percent).

Hospital bed use by Covid-19 patients are 82 percent, 76 percent and 61 percent respectively.

Beginning Oct 9, the Health Ministry will only publish today’s breakdown of new cases by states after midnight on its CovidNow portal.

No new deaths were reported in Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Labuan and Putrajaya.

A total of 45 out of the 63 reported deaths or 71.4 percent happened in the last seven days.

An average of 80 Covid-19 deaths were reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 69, indicating a downtrend.

As of yesterday, there were 67,233 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 8.2 percent from the 73,223 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 56.9 percent from 155,824.

Cluster-linked infections

The Health Ministry’s post-midnight update also provided further insights into the new Covid-19 infections yesterday.

 

From the 4,626 new cases yesterday, a total of 144 of them could be traced to ongoing Covid-19 clusters.

From the cluster-linked cases, 78 (54.2 percent) were from workplaces while 28 (19.4 percent) were from education institutions.

Another 26 (18.1 percent) were from clusters linked to high-risk groups such as old folks homes.

The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to community transmissions (12-8.3 percent).

Previously, the Health Ministry released deaths statistics together with the number of new Covid-19 cases in the evening. This had since changed.

Covid-19 (Nov 1): 4,626 new cases, lowest in 4 months

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 4,626 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,476,268.

The new case count is the lowest in 133 days, since June 21.

 

The fresh infections today comprised 4,442 Malaysians (96 percent) and 184 non-citizens (4 percent).

They were surpassed by a total of 5,299 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 5.5 percent lower compared to a week ago.

 

 

However, those who require intubation have increased by 0.3 percent from a week ago.

Based on the R-naught value (0.95 at the national level), the new case count throughout the country is generally decreasing over the past 14 days, except in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Nationally, the number of hospital admissions in the last seven days have declined by 9.1 percent compared to the preceding week.

However, hospital admissions in some states are on the rise, particularly in Terengganu (+38.7 percent), Pahang (+19.8 percent), Kedah (+19.3 percent) and Sabah (+18 percent).

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry’s Github data repository reported a total of 36 Covid-19 fatalities yesterday (Oct 31), bringing the cumulative death toll to 28,912.

This is the lowest number of reported deaths in 168 days. Nevertheless, Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 876 deaths per 1 million population.

From the newly reported deaths yesterday, 19.4 percent or seven died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of new deaths at 12, making up 33.3 percent of the newly reported fatalities.

The remaining deaths were in Penang (5), Terengganu (4), Kedah (3), Johor (2), Kelantan (2), Negeri Sembilan (2), Sabah (2), Kuala Lumpur (2), Perak (1) and Selangor (1).

No new deaths were reported in Malacca, Pahang, Perlis, Labuan and Putrajaya.

Over the past 14 days, Sarawak had the highest death per million people followed by Perlis and Penang.

All the deaths happened over the past seven days, meaning that there were no backlogs beyond seven days.

 

An average of 82 Covid-19 deaths were reported daily in the last 30 days compared to the seven-day average of 73, indicating a clear downtrend.

A total of 2,704 Covid-19 deaths were reported in October, 9,680 in September, 7,642 in August and 3,858 in July.

As of yesterday, there were 67,969 active Covid-19 cases. This is a reduction of 10.5 percent from the 75,947 active infections a week ago.

Compared to 30 days ago, the number of active cases has fallen by 57.6 percent from 160,414.

Covid-19 deaths (Oct 31): 44 reported deaths, total at 28,876

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry’s Github data repository has reported 44 Covid-19 deaths yesterday (Oct 30), bringing the cumulative death toll to 28,876.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 876 deaths per 1 million population.

Of the 44 deaths, 9.1 percent or 4 died before they could receive treatment at a hospital.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of new deaths (10), making up 22.7 percent of the newly reported fatalities. Of the 10 deaths, seven involved people who were fully vaccinated.

Over the past two weeks, Sarawak has seen 54 deaths per million people – the highest in the country. In contrast, the Klang Valley has seen 9 deaths per million people in the same period.

The remaining deaths were in Johor (5), Sabah (5), Kedah (4), Kelantan (4), Selangor (3), Kuala Lumpur (3), Malacca (2), Perlis (2), Terengganu (2), Negeri Sembilan (1), Pahang (1), Perak (1) and Penang (1).

No new deaths were reported in Labuan and Putrajaya.

A total of 38 out of the 44 reported deaths or 86.4 percent happened in the last seven days.

Covid-19 (Oct 31): 4,979 new cases, second time below 5,000 in a week

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 4,979 new Covid-19 cases today, bringing the cumulative case count to 2,471,642.

This is the second time we recorded below 5,000 daily new cases in a week. Before that, the last time we recorded new cases of sub-5,000 cases was four months ago in June.

The fresh infections comprised 4,753 Malaysians (95.5 percent) and 226 non-citizens (4.5 percent).

They were surpassed by a total of 6,127 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

As of today, the number of Covid-19 patients (including suspected ones) in the intensive care unit (ICU) is 6.8 percent lower compared to a week ago.

 

Those who require intubation have also increased by 8.7 percent from a week ago.

The number of hospital admissions throughout the country in the last seven days had declined by 11.3 percent compared to the preceding week.

 

However, hospital admissions in some states are on the rise, particularly in Pahang (+46.4 percent), Terengganu (+29.2 percent), Kedah (+26.5 percent), Malacca (+26.2 percent) and Kuala Lumpur (+23.0 percent).

Covid-19 hospital bed utilisation rate is highest in Kelantan (82.9 percent), Terengganu (79 percent) and Malacca (75 percent).

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 5,854 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the cumulative infections to 2,466,663.

The fresh infections today comprised 5,512 Malaysians (94.2 percent) and 382 non-citizens (6.5 percent).

They were surpassed by a total of 6,715 Covid-19 patients who recovered today. This is expected to help reduce the number of active cases.

Sabah recorded the highest number of new deaths at 13, making up 20.6 percent of the newly reported fatalities.

The remaining deaths were in Sarawak (11), Selangor (8), Johor (7), Perak (7), Kedah (3), Kelantan (3), Pahang (3), Penang (3), Terengganu (3) and Malacca (2).

From the cluster-linked cases, 87 (43.5 percent) were from workplaces while 60 (30 percent) were from education institutions. Another 32 (16 percent) were from clusters linked to community transmissions.

The remaining cases were traced to clusters related to high-risk groups such as old folks homes (18 – 9 percent) and religious events (3 – 1.5 percent).
