Most Selangor infections not linked to Sabah

PETALING JAYA: More than half of the 26 active Covid-19 clusters in Selangor are not linked to those who returned from Sabah recently, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health director-general said at present, 18 of the clusters were from local infections while the remaining eight were linked to returnees from Sabah.

“This means 69.2% of infections in Selangor are not related to those returning from Sabah. The disease is already in our community, ” he said in a statement on Facebook.

Dr Noor Hisham also said the six new clusters that had been reported since Oct 11 were local transmissions, with nine clusters or 34.6% related to workplace infections.

Cops: PJ road closures message is fake

Categories:

PETALING JAYA: Police have denied that all roads leading into and out of Petaling Jaya have been closed, saying that a viral message claiming such a thing was fake.

The message had claimed that roads leading out of Petaling Jaya through Damansara, Ara Damansara, Subang, Sungai Buloh, Kota Damansara and NPE had been closed.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said police had mounted roadblocks at three main locations in the district since the start of the conditional movement control order (MCO) on Oct 14.

He said the locations were the Subang toll plaza, Sungai Buloh toll plaza and Damansara toll plaza. ADVERTISING

“The screencap shared on social media neglected to reflect the captions which mentioned that all were roadblocks and not road closures, ” he said in a statement yesterday.

“We are thankful to road users who patiently go through the roadblocks as they need to slow down when approaching the roadblocks.”

ACP Nik Ezanee added that they had also deployed personnel to monitor compliance with the conditional MCO.

“Stern action will be taken against those who do not adhere to the standard operating procedure, ” he said.

AGC decides no further action against Khairuddin

Categories:

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali will not face any action for not undergoing home quarantine after returning from abroad in July because the Health Ministry had not issued such an order.

Federal CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) had decided “No Further Action” (NFA) against the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister.

“We have been instructed to inform the outcome of the case.

“The instruction is NFA as the minister was not handed the 14B form to undergo home quarantine, ” he said yesterday.

Asked if that means the Health Ministry did not give the minister the form for home quarantine, Comm Huzir replied “Yes.”

He also said the decision was made as no “concrete statement” was given that could be used to charge the minister.

Khairuddin’s violation of the mandatory 14-day quarantine came to light when it was raised in the Dewan Rakyat on Aug 18 by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.

The Health Ministry subsequently said it had slapped Khairuddin with a RM1,000 fine for breaching the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1998 (Act 342) on Aug 7.

Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun, in his media release, said the Chambers found no home surveillance or observation order was issued by the authorised officer to the minister for him to observe the home surveillance as stipulated under subsection 15(1) of Act 342 as alleged by the complainant.

“Form 14b as prescribed in the guidelines by the Health Ministry, which contained an order for home surveillance and or observation order under subsection 15(1) of Act 342, was not issued to the minister when he was allowed to leave.

“For an act to be considered an offence of breaking a home quarantine order under Act 342, the home surveillance or observation order is required to be issued to the minister under subsection 15(1) of Act 342.

“Accordingly, based on the above consideration, the AGC has decided not to prefer any charge against the minister due to insufficient evidence and thus fails to meet the required burden of proof under the law, ” he said.

Idrus also confirmed that an investigation by the police into a complaint made against Khairuddin had been carried out and completed.

“Our perusal of the investigation paper submitted by the police reveals that the minister visited Turkey on July 3 and flew back on July 7.

“Upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the minister underwent health inspection and screening process for Covid-19 (swab test) and the result was found to be negative.

“The minister was allowed to return to his residence by the authorised officer from the Health Ministry who was appointed under Section 3 of Act 342, ” he said.

Idrus added that the minister subsequently underwent a second health screening on July 10 at Hospital Kuala Lumpur for the purpose of attending a ceremony at Istana Negara on Aug 17 and the result was also found to be negative.

Health DG: Challenge in admitting asymptomatic, mildly symptomatic Covid-19 patients to hospital in Sabah

Categories:

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry faces problems admitting Covid-19 patients in Sabah who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms to hospital due to their lack of knowledge of the disease, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health director-general explained that the Ministry faced challenges in contact tracing in Sabah as Sabahans lacked the understanding and awareness of the virus compared to those from Peninsular Malaysia.

“When we want to admit those who are asymptomatic but (have tested) positive, we have issues in terms of forcing them to go to hospital,” he said during the Ministry’s Facebook live press conference on Wednesday (Oct 21).

Dr Noor Hisham said these patients often run away when they see healthcare workers approaching them.

“We also have to look at the security issues because in the interior, for example, in Kampung Air our staff are also exposed to safety (concerns). So we need to work with our counterparts – the police as well as the army – to make sure that the cases that have been diagnosed as positive are brought to hospital.

“This is the challenge we face on the ground,” he said.
