The Consumer Organisation of Macedonia (COM) was established in 1996 as a non-governmental, non-political and not-for-profit organisation with the aim to make consumer protection effective in Macedonia and fit for the country’s new market conditions.
COM carries out its mission through promoting legal regulation that improve consumer protection; inputting in the formulation of national consumer policy; educating, informing and counseling consumers and representing their interests. As an umbrella organisation, COM is linked to several local consumer organisations and their network of Consumers Advice Bureaus. Consumers can get free information and advice via the phone or in person as well as through the Internet.
COM has also signed a memorandum of cooperation with some municipalities to help establish Consumers Protection Councils at the municipal level.
